The Nigeria chief of Army State, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has pledged to end the attacks facing Kaduna communities as he flagged off an Operation tagged ‘Operation Harbin Kunama II’ against bandits terrorizing the troubled zone.

Besides, the Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and the Army Chief were in Kafanchan to launch the military operation, specifically meant to pursued the herdsmen to the forest and bushes in Southern Kaduna, with the aim of dislodging them from their hideouts.

Speaking at the occasion, Buratai said yesterday, “it is all about keeping our society safe as part of internal security responsibility by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, pointing out that “We are much aware of what is happening in Southern Kaduna; the various communal clashes, the farmers/herders clash and we are training our officers to be more professional to understand the basis of our field operations”.

According to him, the military operation that was flagged off in Southern Kaduna “will last for one month”, adding that “the troops will go into the nooks and crannies of this area, the hills and valleys to flush out all the criminals, bandits and cattle rustlers including kidnappers”.

He said: “you can see from this outing, traditional rulers have come out in full to support us. Our civil military relations have been extremely well. We held town hall meetings where the head of civil military affairs as well as the GOC were there. It was an eye opener. Some of the challenges that are facing the individual community were properly brought out”.

Meanwhile, Governor El-Rufai in his speech urged all the people in Southern Kaduna to embrace peace in order ensure that violence ends, noting that “violence can only end when people decide that violence does not work”.

According to him, “Somalia has been at war for decades but war is not yet over. People must understand that why the chief of Army Staff and his officers are ready to flush out the bandits we must be ready to tolerate one another. Our job as a state government is to provide the necessary support to the security agencies to preserve peace and to prosecute all those involved in any crime. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has charged personnel of the Nigerian Army to remain vigilant in spite of the defeat of the Boko Haram terrorists in the North Eastern part of the country

Tukur Buratai while speaking on Friday when he led officers and men on a new year 10km route match exercise in Abuja.

“You all know the effort we are making in the North East and indeed in all parts of the country.

“Let me use this opportunity to congratulate you for performing excellently well in the year, 2016.

“We have taken initiative and we will continue to maintain this initiative with the defeat of the Boko Haram terrorists.

“We must take care of all our areas of operational responsibilities to ensure that we do not have such ugly incident arising again.

“So, on this note, I want to say congratulations and happy New Year to all you and I want to urge you to remain loyal, to remain committed and we must have the highest standard of discipline this year, 2017.

“Once again, congratulations, thank you and God bless,’’ he said.
Buratai, who stressed the need for exercise and training, also urged the personnel to brace for the challenges that may arise in 2017 and urged them to improve on the successes recorded in 2016.

“I have already passed my training directive for the year – 2017, so, I expect every commander to implement that training directive.

“As I have said also, we should be preparing for the Nigerian Army Small Arms Champion (NASAC), coming up sometime in October and I expect formations to prepare for this championship.

“We will also test some of our high caliber equipment during the championship. Training is key and we must continue to train.
“I will expect new equipment and indeed new techniques which we will adopt in our training activities, as well as our operations.’’

The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Tukur Buratai, on Tuesday declared that the Nigerian troops have been forbidden from uploading pictures and videos of their operations on social media.

The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 1 Division Mechanized Army, Kaduna, Adeniyi Oyebade, handed the directive, when he represented the COAS at the graduation ceremony of Men of Nigerian Battalion, NIBBAT 46, at the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre, NAPKC, Jaji in Kaduna.

There have been instances of soldiers, participating in the fight against Boko Haram terrorist, posting pictures and videos on social media, particularly after victories over insurgents.

Oyebade was quoted as saying: “It is prohibited to upload any picture with your uniforms while in operation.

“Specifically, I want to warn you on the use of social media. While you are on operation, you may want to take photo shot of some good moment but you should be very careful while doing that.

“Avoid any picture or video that has to do with your colleague or operation. You are barred not to upload such information. It is prohibited to upload any picture with your uniforms while in operation because it will become pragmatic problems for the Nigerian Army.”

The gallant Nigerian Army has moved its Special Forces Training School to Buni Yadi, a town once controlled by the heartless Boko Haram sect in Yobe State.


Giving reason why the training school was moved from Niger State to Buni Yadi, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, said:

“We know the importance of this place – Buni Yadi. This is the route they (terrorists) passed through to other parts of the North East and even Plateau in the North Central.” 



Buratai who spoke while addressing troops at the training school on Saturday, added that “It is better for us to have dominated and taken over the place,” he also assured the troops of their welfare and logistics need, including required equipment to completely defeat whatever is left of Boko Haram.

Buni Yadi, headquarters of Gujba Local Government, was controlled by the Boko Haram for several months before it was recaptured by the gallant military in March 2015. 

It is the town where 59 schoolboys were murdered by Boko Haram as they slept in their dormitories at a Federal Government College in 2014. 

General Buratai assured that the military will restore full peace to North East in line with the desire of President Muhammadu Buhari.
